read one short passage aloud — I'll tell you where your English accent comes from, and place it on the map
made by Mimica — learn to speak English with confidence · try it →Read the passage above and find out. You get the region your accent was shaped in, usually a country too, and how sure the guess is. If it's wrong, say so and tell it where you're really from.
Yes. No account, no payment, nothing to download. It runs in the browser on a phone or a laptop and asks for the microphone only while you record.
Good enough to be fun, not good enough to be a judge. It's a research model: strong on the accents it has heard a lot, shakier on the rest, and it always tells you how sure it is instead of pretending. A thick first-language accent is easy for it. A very neutral one may only get a tentative guess.
That's who it was made for. Most people who use it are learning English. The model was trained on English spoken by people with all sorts of first languages, so a foreign accent isn't a problem. It's the signal.
So the comparison is fair. Same words for everyone means the model compares pronunciation, stress and rhythm, not vocabulary. Twenty seconds is enough, and we measured that: see why it only needs 20 seconds.
The clip is kept to improve this open research model. It isn't used to identify you. If you tell us where you're really from, that answer is stored with the clip so the model can learn from the miss.
As many times as you like. A quiet room and your normal reading pace give the clearest result.
Finding out what you sound like is step one. Mimica, the app behind this test, lets you practise real conversations with AI tutors, hear a native-clear version of your own voice, and see which sounds to work on after each session.
